Home Gardner Suggestions........
When you receive your grow pots:
1) Assemble them empty and leave them over knight, this will make it easer to re-stack them later.
2) Disassemble the grow pots and fill with a good potting soil or a hydroponics medium and wet it good the day before you plant, (the medium may shrink and more may be added before planting).
There are many very good potting soils, so read the labels and consult with local nurseries, or your county extension agent for their recommendations.
3) A very good potting soil is, Fox-Farm (http://www.foxfarmfertilizer.com/index.html) and recommended by many Comerica growers, about 1/2 cubic ft. per pot will be needed. You can visit their site and click on you State and the dealer locations will be listed with phone numbers and addresses.
4) When planting strawberries make sure that you keep the crown above the potting soil, this will allow your crowns to expand or split to make more or larger berries.
Tower Suggestions Patios:
1) Purchase a wood base roller from your local Nursery, or Home Depot and a large pan about 4 inches in depth. This will keep irrigation water form draining on your deck or patio.
2) Screw the bottom grow pot through the pan and to the roller base, using a washer and gasket so the pan does not leak on your deck.
3) When the bottom grow pot is screwed to the platform, it makes a floor flange for your PVC stabilizer pipe. The PVC stabilize pipe should extend about five or six inches above your tower. The pan can be filled with colorful rocks or fill it with potting soil and plant it to flowers or vegetables.
Irrigation Suggestions:
A) Connect a 360 degree sprinkler spike to a 1/4 inch distribution hose, plug it into your lawn or garden irrigation lateral, and drop it into the top of the PVC pipe. This will water your tower when your irrigation timer comes on. (A 1/4 inch cut-off valve can be used to control your water pattern.)
B) You have an option to use a double circle of drip hose that reaches out to your plants in the top grow pot, tied together with tape or zip tie.
Pest Control Tip: I Apply a strip of Petroleum Jelly or Vaseline At the base of my tower stand and support post, to keep the small ciders and ants from getting into my Grow Pots.
A strip of black tape, (like the kind used for insulating pipes) around the trunk of fruit trees, then apply a strip of jelly to the tape works great.
