Agro Tower Grow Pots
Page # 7 Suggestions For One Acre
One Acre; 208 ft. X 208 ft. - - = 43,264 Square feet.
Planter & row spacing:
1. Arrange The Grow Pots - two rows back to back, three foot apart.
2. Stagger the rows 4.5 ft apart, then a service alley eight foot on center from row to row.
3. The rows are staggered for maximum sun, plus ease of maintenance and harvesting.
4. Alleys should be wide enough to accommodate an electric golf cart for a service
vehicle, or other small carts.
5. Each row equals 46 towers per row.
6. Thirty eight rows, 46 towers per row equals 1748 towers per acre @ six units per tower equals,10,488 grow pots that will contain 62,928 plants, and equals about 3.5 acres of conventional grown strawberries. (10,488 units = 44 pallets or 2 truckloads of grow pots)
STABILIZER POST: (Suggestion)
Use a rebar, conduit or galvanized pipe that will fit inside of a one inch or ¾-inch schedule
40 PVC pipe.
Bury the metal pipe into the ground,(about 16 to 18 inches) while making sure that the pipe is plumb and extends thru the first three pots.
An inverted plumb and level nursery bucket that large plants are delivered in, ( eight and one half inches across the bottom) makes a good base slick enough to rotate the towers back-in forth, or a short piece of eight inch PVC pipe works good.
Slide a one inch or 3/4 inch PVC pipe over the metal pipe that is long enough to extend through the top of the tower about 5 or 6 inches. This will allow you to insert a PVC- T in the top of the tower for an irrigation lateral that runs from tower to tower.
You can plug a 1/4 inch distribution hose into the lateral to feed a sprinkler or a double circle of drip tubing that fits just inside of your plants on the top grow pot and irrigate all of the pots below.
Slide the planted grow pots over the PVC pipe and rest on the inverted bucket, this will allow you to twist or turn the towers for maximum sun or harvesting.
Each Grow Pot will take about ½ Cubic foot of growing medium to fill.
Pest Control Tip: I Apply a strip of Petroleum Jelly or Vaseline At the base of my tower stand and support post, to keep the small ciders and ants from getting into my Grow Pots.
A strip of black tape, (like the kind used for insulating pipes) around the trunk of fruit trees, then apply a strip of jelly to the tape works great.
When planting Strawberries make sure that you keep the crown above the potting soil, this will allow your crowns to expand or split to make more or larger berries.
Do not over fertilize, you will burn the plants.
Note: The towers can also be arranged in a more condensed pattern;
Example; Divide one acre into 4 sections with 4 - 8 ft. service alleys, each section containing 46 rows - 4.5 ft. apart, (staggered) 11 towers per row = 506 grow pots x 6 ports = 3,036 plants per section.
Four sections x 506 grow pots = 2024 pots @ 6 pots per tower = 12,144 grow pots, x 6 ports per a pot = 72,864 plants,or about 4 conventional acres on one acre.
